Laptop Storage and Safety
Laptop Storage
Prevention is always better than repairing damage, so it is important to take of your laptop. This includes proper storage, among other things. Not only will appropriate storage prolong the life of your laptop, it will also keep it more secure. When travelling around with an individual laptop, a laptop bag or case is useful to avoid scratching it or dropping it.
Computer and laptop trolleys are useful for storing and transporting several laptops at once. Typically used in schools and universities, laptop trolleys secure the laptops from theft, provide compact storage, charge the batteries, and transport many laptops at once. This prevents the possibility of damage while being carried around, without people tripping over trailing cords, handling them via their screens rather than the base, or inadvertently dropping them. Laptop trolleys also keep laptops safe when in storage, preventing drinks being spilled on them, people rolling their chairs over the computer cords, incorrectly plugging in cords to recharge the batteries and so on.
Laptop Safety
Laptops have the benefit of being mobile and compact in comparison with a desktop computer. However this also makes them more vulnerable to damage and theft. Some things to keep in mind to keep your laptop in top working order include using and storing it in a well circulated area to prevent overheating, not exposing it to rapid temperature fluctuations, having the unit cleaned by a professional to remove dust that will cause overheating, and plugging cords into their proper ports. Always make sure you are putting the right accessory in the right socket, because jamming it in will most likely damage it permanently.
It is also a good idea to keep all food and liquids away from your laptop. Any spilt drinks can damage internal components and cause it to short circuit, which can corrupt data. Finally, protect the display monitor by avoiding to shut it when there are any items on the keyboard.
